Jai Alexander

Jai Alexander is a movement experimentalist and creative based in Houston, Texas. His unique movement vocabulary draws inspiration from the fluidity of roller-coaster rides, the rhythmic patterns of waves, and movements that deeply resonates with the human body. While pursuing his undergraduate studies at Lamar University’s Department of Theatre and Dance, Jai’s choreography has been showcased at dance festivals across Houston and nearby regions. In addition to his creative work, Jai currently teaches competitive dance for kids at The Stage Dance Studio and offers adult classes at The Interchange.
I dance to not only express my internal being but to challenge my boundaries and preconceived idea of what dance is. Dance as we know it has shifted, adapted, challenged, accepted, and rebelled; all concepts I have personally experienced throughout life in and out of the studio. Because of this I’ve learned invaluable life lessons and healed the parts of my adolescent self, while it continues to bring joy and fulfillment into my life. Lastly, I dance because it is an artistic mind, body, and soul experience.
